Drive FM 1314 between the Grand Parkway and US-59 and count the new storefronts, the graded lots and the dump trucks. Porter is growing quickly, and the growth leaves a fine layer of dust on everything, including the inside of houses that were finished only a year or two ago.
A lot of the carpet we clean in Porter has had exactly one owner and has never seen a professional cleaning. That first visit is a little different from the tenth.
The first clean on first-owner carpet
Why new carpet gets dirty fast here
When a neighborhood is still being built out, the air carries more grit than usual. Construction dust is very fine. It drifts in on clothes and through doors that open fifty times a day, then settles low in the carpet where a vacuum lifts only part of it. On light builder carpet you'll see it first as a dull band along the walls and in front of the sliding door. People sometimes think that gray line is a stain. Mostly it's dust that has worked under the fibers and stayed.
What the first visit finds
Carpet that has never been shampooed has no soap residue built up in it, so it usually cleans up beautifully. The work goes into the high-traffic paths and the odd spill nobody caught in time. Pet spots from a dog that's still learning the house are common, and we treat those with an enzyme product that reaches through to the pad.
We won't oversell a first clean. If the carpet is in great shape and you only need the main rooms done, the technician will say so. Our three-rooms-for-$88 special covers a lot of first visits on its own.
A tip that costs nothing
Change your air filter more often while the lots around you are still being built. Monthly is not too much in a subdivision full of active construction. A clogged filter lets dust circulate through the vents and land right back on the floor you just paid to clean.
Porter neighborhoods on our route
The Highlands is a big one. It's a master-planned community of about 2,300 acres west of I-69 at FM 1314 and the Grand Parkway, and new sections there keep opening. Riverwalk and Oakhurst, the golf course community, are regular stops as well, along with the streets in between. Families zoned for Porter High in New Caney ISD are all in our coverage.
Porter has one claim to fame we like: astronaut Robert Crippen, who piloted the first space shuttle flight, grew up here, and the local elementary school carries his name.
How it goes on the day
You and the technician walk the rooms together, and you get a price before the work begins. Problem spots get a pre-treatment, then the main cleaning pass lifts soil up out of the pile so the extractor can carry it off. Since we use very little water, the carpet is ready for foot traffic well before dinner.
